The Joys of a Christian Family

We've been married 33 years (time sure flies!!) and have entered the seventh season of our lives - both our girls are married and our oldest has blessed us with two amazing grandchildren. I'd say this is the best season ever, but as I look back, every season has been filled with joy, especially after I became a believer.Both my husband and I would urge you to enjoy to the fullest each season of life and don't long for the next - it will come soon enough. And of course, there are trials and challenges during every season, but the Lord will get you through ALL things if you surrender your lives to Him.

The Importance of Family

I have always believed that it is important for a wife to put her husband before her children (which seems impossible to mothers of young children) and after empty nest, not allow her children and grandchildren be the center of her life. However, we have friends who chose to put their children and grandchildren first and did not leave the state in spite of a very succesful career offer. I really admire them - this really goes against the way most worldly people think (as does choosing to sacrifice things to be a stay-at-home mom). It's only been in recent times (since the feminist movement, I suppose) that family takes a back seat to pursue the things of the world. One of my least favorite people in the world wrote a book several years back saying that "It Takes a Village" to raise children. Although she was way off in her premise (that the government should mold the minds of our children since the parents are too ignorant to do so), I do believe the modern trend of not staying together as a family is extremely harmful and will come back to haunt this generation. I strongly believe that if at all possible, children should be brought up with their moms at home and both set of grand- parents involved in their lives.
